Defending champs TT, Barbados and hosts Jamaica go for second win

KINGSTON, Jamaica: Hosts Jamaica, following a convincing win in their opening match of the WINDIES Women’s Championship T20 Blast, will be on the hunt for another, when they face Windwards at Kensington Park today at 2.30pm.

The Jamaicans, led by Captain, Stafanie Taylor, sent out a warning to all comers that they are not going to be kind hosts, as they humbled Guyana by eight wickets in the opening round of the tournament at Sabina Park on Sunday.

Guyana batted first in the encounter and made just 75 for eight off their 20 overs. Skipper Stephanie Taylor was brilliant with the ball and took 2/11 in her four overs. Roshana Outar also shone with figures off 3/12 in her spell. The locals then romped to victory on the back of an opening partnership of 41 between Jodian Morgan who got 19 and Taylor who made 16. Chadean Nation with an unbeaten 16 and Natasha McLean 16 not out, ensured the victory.

Later today, they face a Windward Islands team that will be short on confidence as they lost to Barbados in the opening match of the tournament at Kensington Park, Barbados sealed an 18-run victory despite being restricted to 101 all out. Windies all-rounder, Deandra Dottin top scored with 40 for the Barbadians, who then kept the Windwards down to only 83 for the loss of eight wickets at the end of their 20 over-allotment.

Barbados battle Leeward Islands as they look for another win 

Barbados, after their win will be hoping to keep the Leewards winless as they face off at Sabina Park in Kingston from 6.30pm. The Leewards was dismantled by T&T on the back of a fine all-round performance from Stacy-Ann King. The T&T girls ran away winners by 68 runs in a game that they dominated from the start. King played a good hand in getting an unbeaten 38 to spur T&T on to 132/6 off their allotted 20 overs. Reniece Boyce 25 and Britney Cooper 24 chipped in as well. T&T then bowled very tight and with King returning 2/13, all they muster was 64 for five. This would give the Barbadians a lot of confidence going into this game, while the Leewards will be hoping to quickly pick up the pieces.

Defending Champions, TT goes for 2nd WIN

After their dominating display against the Leeward Islands, T&T is expected to face a stiffer challenge from a more experienced outfit in Guyana, when they clash in their second-round match from 9.30am at Sabina Park.

The T&T ladies, beaming with confidence, will look to upstage Guyanese who are still licking their wounds from their first-round loss to Jamaica who will be hoping that their batting comes good this time around.
